Notability was formed in 1993, as a result of a last - minute request to one of our number to provide the music at a wedding in Warrington. She asked her friends to help out, and we had a choir of two each of Sopranos, Altos, Tenors and Basses. We all really enjoyed the small-choir experience, and when we received invitations to perform from people who were at the wedding, we decide to carry on with a larger number so that we could always field a decent sized small choir.
And that's how it began. One concert led to another. In our nearly fourteen years of existence we have performed on about 140 occasions – an average of about ten performances a year.

We've done all sorts of things, in all sorts of places. Furthest afield was a visit to Louvain, Belgium. We've sung for church funds all over Manchester; at charity do's in County Cheshire; led the hymns at the Cenotaph, Manchester, on Remembrance Sunday; done several more weddings; entertained at 50th and a 60th wedding Anniversary parties and were the choir at the Deaconisation of one of our tenors.

We are currently a choir of four to five voices per part, so we can make quite a loud noise when required. To be a member of Notability requires only a good standard of singing, and the friendship of the other members. We don't have a conductor, though we sometimes need someone to bring us in and off. Mostly the programme is chosen collectively, and individuals take initiatives in bringing new music to the choir’s attention. We sing together because we like singing ... together.

We've put on many full concerts, featuring some fine solo and small ensemble singing, presenting a very wide range of music. Our repertoire includes both sacred and secular, a capella and accompanied, serious and humorous, pop and classical, contemporary and mediaeval. If it's good music we'll sing it, if we like it. We hope you will like it too.
